Project Scholars, a non-profit organization that hosts Pig on the Pond Community Festival announced the postponement of its 22nd annual event, scheduled for March 6-8, 2020, at Waterfront Park, in Clermont.

The event was postponed after the recent withdrawal of the event planner due to unexpected personal circumstances. The Project Scholars board voted to postpone the 2020 event due to lack of time to prepare for the three-day event, which includes live entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks and more.

Project Scholars Board President Paul Rountree said that Pig on the Pond, which is the major fundraiser for the organization’s scholarships, will return March 5-7, 2021.

Rountree advised that all of the current students receiving scholarships will continue to do so thanks to reserve funds and the board is in the process of receiving applications in order to award four new, four-year scholarships this spring.

“We regret having to postpone this event and apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment,” Rountree said. “We look forward to hosting Pig on the Pond Community Festival in 2021.

Pig on the Pond will be missed by many in the community. Last year, Pig on the Pond celebrated its 21st-anniversary, bringing over 25,000 people through the gates and providing many local non-profit organizations a means to conduct fundraisers for educational purposes.

Project Scholars Scholarship

The Project Scholars scholarship program seeks to identify and assist dedicated and deserving students that wish to obtain a baccalaureate degree at a college or university. The scholarship program provides financial support for the entire undergraduate process.

Every year, four $10,000 scholarships are awarded to students in South Lake County who demonstrated a need for financial assistance, outstanding community service, and academic performance.

Mentors can play a pivotal role in a student’s life and provide wisdom, teaching, and support. Every scholarship recipient is paired with a leader in their field of interest or trusted adviser

BUILDING A LEGACY

In 2013, Project Scholars created a fund capable of providing the current level of support into perpetuity.  Once achieved, Project Scholars will increase its scholarship size and the number of benefitting students until every deserving student with a need has a way to achieve the education they deserve.
