If you are like a lot of people, you remember when everyone made fun of “home remedies.”  Herbs were Grandma’s idea of medicine, not at all like the “real” things we got from doctors and pharmacies.  Don’t forget about chicken soup.  How many Jewish grandmothers had their children and grandchildren roll their eyes when they said, “Eat chicken soup and you will feel better”.  Acupuncture was considered something odd at best and quackery at worst.

All that is changing now.  Homeopathic medicine is gaining more and more respect.  Acupuncture is recognized for its many positive effects.  Herb shops are popping up everywhere and we now know that chicken soup really will make you feel better!

Keeping all that in mind, the Clermont Historical Society is hosting Smiley Promsurin on Monday, June 12th at 7:00 PM to speak about her journey of discovery about the medicinal properties of three specific leafy green herbs.  Some of you may recognize Smiley’s name from her work with orchids at her nursery right here in Clermont.  What you may not know is that for many years, she has also been selling the three herbs she personally has used to improve her well-being.

If you would like to learn more, come on Monday, June 12th to the Clermont Historic Village, 490 West Avenue, at 7:00 PM and hear Smiley speak.
